Guthook Guides took an entire set of tools needed for thru-hiking and consolidated them into a single virtual location. Such an app might have been inevitable, but for ultralight-obsessed thru-hikers, it was a revolution.

VERY interesting article about an extremely useful tool. …but, TOO useful???! I do like spreading out maps and reading the White Mountain Guide in preparation for a hike, and use technology to make smaller copies of the maps and notes on the trail waypoints, distances, altitudes, etc and print them on sheets of paper I then carry in zip lock bags. I do carry my phone and run strava while hiking and have other gps based apps which might show me where I am in relation to roads and other civilization, but do not have any hiking specific apps. Got any recommendations for the White Mountains? I sure hope hiking the triple crown trail systems doesn’t get like Mt Everest!
